Men’s 5 Mile Club Record Smashed!

Steve CroweIn one of the most outstanding runs ever by an Ellesmere Port Running Club member, Steve Crowe obliterated his own club record in the Dolgellau 5 mile road race on Saturday 29th July. The race is in the South of the Snowdonia National Park at the head of Mawddach estuary and is known as a quick and scenic course.

Winning the race was Gwyn Owen from Eryri Harriers in a superb 25.04. The ladies race was won in an equally great 26:40.

However, for EPRC, the day belonged to Steve Crowe. Having previously run the 3rd Sale Sizzler 2 days earlier in Manchester in a slightly disappointing 16:32 for 15th position, Steve was determined to put in a top performance.

The course starts on a hill, but with plenty of downhill’s to compensate, Steve ran an extraordinary race for 2nd position in a new club record of 25:54 knocking over a minute and eleven seconds off his previous 5 mile best.

Steve currently holds six of the seven recorded club records from 5k to the half marathon, with only the marathon not in his grasp currently held by EPRC’s previous top runner, Dave Sargent. With this latest stunning performance, Steve will be eyeing the club marathon record as surely it is now within his grasp.
