Port Runners try their luck on the Fells

Three Ellesmere Port runners made the trip to Llangollen on 23 rd April to take part in the Dinas Bran Hill fell race. The race was 5 miles with 880' of climbing, a steep climb from Llangollen followed by two rounds and two climbs to the top of Dinas Bran and there where 70 runners present at the start.

First runner home for Ellesmere Port was Mike Burns who, running his first fell race achieved an excellent 22 nd position in a time of 36.55. Experienced fell runner Paul Welsh was the next home for the club after tackling the tough course in 40.37 to secure 37 th position. Alison Macdonald was the final runner to cross the line for the club finishing in 50 th position in 41.48 which was a great achievement considering this was Alison's first fell race and that she had raced in the borders league the previous night.

Last Saturday saw four EPRC runners head to the Wrexham Industrial Estate for the Wrexham 10 miler that started at the Pirelli social club. Light drizzle at the start of the race meant good running conditions, however in typical British fashion that soon changed as soon as the race got under way and a hot sunny afternoon prevailed leaving the runners gasping of thirst as they approached the water station at the half way point. The race was won by Buckley AC's Clive West.

New club captain Steve Blaylock was the first runner home for EPRC after negotiating the course in 1 hour and 9 minutes.

Pete Jones was next home for the club finishing the race in 1 hour 13 minutes and was followed within a minute by Alan Durston who gave a good performance considering the humid conditions.

Alison Macdonald was the final runner home for the club after completing the race in 1 hour 18 minutes to the delight of her small army of daughters who were there cheering their Mum on.
