On the run

Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon

A special mention for Amanda Penfold who notched a scintillating time of 1hr 53m 05s notwithstanding the arduousness of the course and unseasonably high temperature on race day. Mandy must be looking forward to honing her race speed in the forthcoming Borders League races to augment her recent strength training.

Great North Run – 1.10.06

Flying the flag for EPRC in this year’s Great North Run was Jeff Hadley who completed the 13.1 mile course in 2hr 9m 38s. Jeff will be hoping it will be plane’ sailing over this distance next time out and that he can ‘shave’ a few minutes off his time.

Sandstone Trail Race  – 1.10.06

This multi-terrain event follows the Sandstone Trail from Duckington to Delamere and is essentially two races in one, with EPRC being well represented in both the 17mile Long race and the 10mile Short race. Matt Whitfield produced a ‘highly polished’ performance to lead home for the club in the Long race clocking 2hr 19m. The ever-improving Keith Musson, with Alan Durston completing the trio, quickly followed in Matt. Alan must surely be confident that he can ‘transport’ his fine recent form into the Amsterdam Marathon later this month.

In the Short race ‘flying’ Nicky Bird registered a hugely impressive time of 1hr 18m to finish fourth overall and secure the First Lady prize. Next in was Mike Burns who was happy with his ‘brief’ time of 1hr 24m. Alison Macdonald gave a ‘lesson’ in even paced running to cross the line in 1hr 28m but missed out on the Lady Vet 40 prize due to a questionable decision by the race organisers. Completing the EPRC quartet and making a very welcome return to racing was Roy Traynor.

Summer Multi-Terrain League

The four race series concluded with the final race held at Arrowe Park. EPRC’s Ladies team secured 10th place with Nicki Bird 9th, Alison Hughes 18th and Topsy Lee 20th in the under 30 category. Alison Macdonald finished an excellent 2nd over 40 and Madelaine Bird 5th over 50. The mens A team finished a creditable 7th with the B team in 25th. Ian Cooper deservedly earned 5th place overall and 2nd in the over 40 category, with Mike Burns 30th. In the under 30 category Steve Laker finished 14th, Chris Marshall 15th, and Nigel Cririe 36th.  Matt Whitfield’s current fine form earned him 4th spot in the Over 50 category with Keith Musson 13th, Alan Durston 16th and Chris Bennion 31st.
