Ellesmere Port Running Club were well represented at the final race of the Deestriders organised Off Road Series on Friday September 1st.
With Andy Wilton from Buxton AC winning the race in a time of 26:40, the real race was for 4th and 5th place, was between EPRC runners Steve Crowe and Ian Cooper. Steve managed to hold off Ian to finish in 27:44 with Ian following in 28:03.
Danny Legg ran 32:14 to finish in 24th place. First Lady home for the club was Alison Hughes, 42nd in 34:51.
Other notable performances came from Keith Musson (35:46, 45th), John Jennings (36:23, 48th), Nigel Crierie (41:31, 63rd) and Madeline Bird (41:58, 66th).
In the overall standings for the series Ellesmere Port RC came out with a number of first places. Alison Hughes won the Senior Lady Category and Madeline Bird won the V50 Lady category and for the men Ian Copper was 1st V40 Male.
Steve Crowe was 2nd overall in the Senior Male division, John Jennings was 3rd MV45, Danny Legg was 4th in the MV40’s and Mat Whitfield was 5th in MV50’s.
Sunday 3rd September, saw Mark Dodd and Danny Legg competing in the ever popular Hoylake 10k race. Running along the sea front the extremely strong winds made for a difficult return leg on this out and back course.
The eventual winner was Mark Humston of Wirral AC. Mark, using his racing savvy, sheltered behind eventual 4th place runner, Rob Kelly for the first 6k of the race then accelerated away to a clear win in a time of 35:31. 2nd Place went to Michael Garratt in 36:12 with 3rd position being taken by Lester McCabe in 36:16. First lady home was Karen Harrison in 40:25.
With over 450 runners taking part, EPRC runner, Mark posted a new personal best time of 38:33 finishing in his highest ever placing with 7th position and Danny Legg coming home in 42:35 and 31st place. Danny will now be hoping to build on this solid run in the coming weeks.
Hydro 5k Challenge
Sefton Park, Liverpool was the setting for the Hydro Active Women’s Challenge 5k race. Ellesmere Port’s Alison McDonald was competing with some of the world’s greatest female road runners including race winner and former marathon world record holder Tegla Loroupe. The race was won in 16:32, with 2nd place going to Sonia O’Sullivan in 16:38 and 3rd position was Tracey Morris in 16:49. Alison’s official time is yet to be published.
