Chris Marshall decided to take advantage of his recent hard training and good form and ran the Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon, on Sunday 2nd September. In reasonable weather conditions, Chris began very strongly and by half way was ahead of his sub 3 target time. Towards the latter stages, the undulating course began to take its toll and times began to slip slightly. However, Chris's strength came through and he was rewarded with an impressive and well-deserved time of 02:55:55 for 4th senior male (8th overall). The winner was Philip Hails in a time of 02:38:55.
It is great to see the increasing level of talent that Ellesmere Port running club have as members, and that they are becoming very competitive at all distances.
Club 5k handicap race
On Friday 31st August, the club held its twice-yearly 5k handicap race. The handicaps evened the field very effectively, with several runners in contention towards the last 200 metres. The winner was Stephen Laker who narrowly beat Dave Nalder in a sprint finish for the line. Steve's winning time was 17:15, beating his handicap time by 20sec. Jon Hawker won the prize for being closest to his target time.
