Nubile Newly Wed Nets New Record in New York November Marathon
EPRC’s Mark Dodd crossed the Atlantic to the Big Apple to take part in the ING New York Marathon on Sunday November 5th. It is not known which, if any, of Gerard ‘New York New York so good they named it twice’ Kenny’s vices Mark may have engaged in prior to the race (he was after all on his honeymoon!) but he certainly retained sufficient energy and determination to run a scandalously fast time of 2hr55m05s to scorch home in 563rd position.
Mark, clearly inspired by Sinatra’s classic lyric ‘I’ll make a brand new start of it, in old New York’, completed a truly memorable week by not only starting out on married life with Sharron in spectacular fashion but also in registering a fantastic new distance PB, with his finishing time putting him in the top 1.5% of the 36,847 finishers.
Mark has clearly matured as a runner over the past few months as evidenced by his split times, which showed that he paced the race to perfection, and will definitely be looking to further improve his race times over the coming months.
Not be outdone by young gun Mark Dodd, two of EPRC’s evergreen race veterans, Matt Whitfield and Brian Griffiths, made the shorter cross border trip to Abergele to compete in the Slaters 5 on Sunday 5th November. Having recently travelled to Amsterdam to complete the Half Marathon and Marathon respectively, both runners showed that they had not only fully recovered from their Dutch adventure but that they had gained both strength and speed in recording excellent times over a testing hilly and blustery course. Matt was first to shine for the club in a superb time of 31m46s (securing a prize for 3rd placed MV50), quickly followed in by Brian who delivered yet another first class finishing time of 33m44s.
Borders League Race 2 Sunday 12 November 2006 – Caernarfon
A reminder to all club members that we really do need you to turn out next Sunday as more runners makes more points, and as Brucie would say; ‘Points make prizes’. See you there!
