Paul bounces back after surgery

Sunday 6th January saw the inaugural running of the Delamere Dash Trail Race in the backdrop of Delamere forest. Three club members represented the club at this approximately 6mile off road event and all posted excellent times.  The most impressive was Paul Robertson, months after having surgery on his knee has made excellent progress and is back competing for prizes, finishing 3rd male in the vet 40 age group with a time of 37:56.  First home for the club was Simon Jeffs in 6th place with a time 35:10.  Completing the trio was Mark Dodd who is also making excellent progress after injury to finish in a time of 39:20.  The winner was Matt Cullen in a time of 32:08, with the ladies race being won by Catherine Brogan from Bolton in a time of 39:48.

Thornton Hough to Willaston New Year’s Day race

Nine club members took part in the 3.4 mile Thornton Hough to Willaston road race on New Year’s Day and by the haul of prizes, they did not seem to be suffering to badly from the previous nights festivities.  Four club member secured top three finishes, the highest finisher was Alison Macdonald who was 1st Lady with Madeline Bird 3rd position.  In the men’s race, Mike Burns was 2nd Senior Male with Mathew Whitfield 3rd Senior Male.  The winner was Chris Cooper who is emerging as a massive talent and will soon be shattering all his fathers (Ian Cooper) personal bests in the very near future.  Other club members that took part are Brian Griffiths, John Jennings, John Cole, and Nigel Crierie.

Round-the-Walls Race 

The historic city Chester made the backdrop for an early opportunity for Six-club member to work of their Christmas dinners in the Boxing Day race, around the walls.  First home for the club in 26th place was Simon Jeffs in a time 29:02.  Closely followed by Michael Burns 29:27, David Roberts 33:28, Alison Macdonald 33:48, John Jennings 33:56 and completing the line up was Michelle Jennings in a time of 43:02.  The race was won by Stockport Harriers runner Bashir Hussain in a time of 24:24, the women’s race was won by Emma Parry from Wrexham Ac in a time of 28:35.
