Border League Resumes at Abergele

After taking a break for Christmas the Borders League resumed last Sunday with Round Four being hosted by Abergele.

The course was being used for the first time and was measured to 5 miles. The starting point was the Seafront at Pensarn with 244 runners heading out along cycle paths before turning into a Caravan Park at Llanddulas and then heading back to finish in Pensarn.

The winner of the race was Buckley AC’s Clive West who crossed the line in 26.24 some twenty seconds ahead of West Cheshire’s Ian Wetherall (26.45). Mike Stanley of Wallasey AC was third finishing in a time of 27.16.

First runner back for Ellesmere Port was Ian Cooper who stormed to 9th position in a finishing time of 27.48 leaving Ian 4th overall in the V40 category.

Next runner home for EPRC was Steve Crowe who tackled the course in 28.22 to claim 15th position and hold onto 2nd position overall in the series in the senior men’s category.

Denis Duret was the third runner home for the club and showed a return form by finishing 28th (29.01) which leaves Denis 7th overall in the senior men’s category.

Tony Hyland was soon to follow finishing in a time of 29.29 to secure 29.29. The next runner home for the club was Dave Winder who was making his Border League debut for the club after recently joining and has already made a huge difference finishing in a respectable 77th in 31.45.

The 6th runner in was club chairman Dave Nalder who gave a solid display to finish 84th in 31.56. Dave was followed in by Steve Blaylock who is working his way back into form on the back of his London Marathon training, Steve finished 105th in 32.46.

The ever reliable Chris Marshall 33.23 (114th) and Les Fleetwood 33.28 (116th) were the next runner’s home which left Keith Musson as the all important 10th counter for the club finishing in 33.46 to take 123rd position.

The results meant a team score on the day of 708 points leaving Ellesmere Port 4th in the Division 1 league.

Anyone wishing to join the club, we meet in the foyer of the Whitby Sports & Social Club at 6.45 on Tuesdays and Fridays to start running at 7pm.
