In blustery conditions Chris Marshall raced the Wavertree Mystery Park 5k race on Wednesday night. He finished the 3 lap course in a creditable 18:39. However, the fells and hills are a calling young Chris but hopefully in this kind of form, this isn’t the last we’ll see of him on the road race circuit.
Penny Lane 10k
Simon Jeffs - 35:12
Mark Dodd - 35:56
Dave Roberts - 44:57
Four Ellesmere Port Runners ventured over to Liverpool Cricket Club for the annual and ever increasingly popular Penny Lane 10k. Coming home first in a sensational sprint finish with arch rival Sean McCormack from Abergele Harriers was Simon Jeffs. Not expecting much from the race, he ran strongly from start to finish just getting pipped on the post by Sean, but still posting a new PB of 35:12 to finish 10th out of 477 runners.
Over 45 seconds later a tired Mark Dodd came across the line for 13th position in 35:56. Not far behind Mark and having one of his best 10k’s of the last two years was Mathew Whitfield. 51st position overall, and 5th V50 male, Matt posted an impressive 38:55 finally breaking the 39 barrier he’s been after all summer season.
Running a solid race was Dave Roberts. Posting 169th place in a good time of 44:57, Dave must now be looking forward to Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon I early September.
