Port get set to host Borders League race

This remembrance Sunday sees Ellesmere Port Running Club host the second round of this seasons Borders League race.

Clubs from as far as Caernarfon will descend towards the Capenhurst Electricity Club to tackle the 5.4 mile course that starts on the corner of Rectory Lane at the junction with Capenhurst Lane, the runners then head up Rectory Lane turning left into Chapel Lane and through Ledsham Village heading towards the Chapel at the Junction with Parkgate Road, the runners then head down Capenhurst Lane turning back into Rectory Lane to repeat the loop they have just run and finally continuing up Capenhurst Lane until they reach the turning for BNFL where the welcomed finish line awaits.

EPRC are currently third behind West Cheshire and Wirral in Division 1 and will be looking for a strong turn out from both the Men’s and Woman’s Team.

All club members and helpers are asked to meet at the Capenhurst Electricity Club at 9am on Sunday to help organise race. The race will start just after 11am.

On Sunday, Abergele Harriers held their 18th Annual Slaters 5 Mile road race. Despite the rain there was 243 entrants, one of the biggest fields for several years. In first position overall was Steven Gilliland from Bro Dysynni AC in a time of 28 minutes exactly, followed very closely by John Wycherley of Helsby RC in 28.07. 3rd overall was James Bleakley of Colwyn Bay AC in 28mins 15secs.

First runner home for EPRC was Steve Crowe who finished in 13th position in a time of 29.49 on what was a very tough undulating course. Steve was supported by Chris Marshall who tackled the course in a time of 32.19 to finish in 32nd position.

On Sunday 31st October EPRC runner John Jennings headed to Snowdon for the annual Marathon.

The race starts at Nant Peris (300ft) on the A4086 and then climbs to the top of the Llanberis Pass (Pen Y Pass 1100ft), it then follows the A498 to Beddgelert (200ft) and there continues up the A4085 to Waunfawr. From here it is a rapid climb to about 1200ft at Bwlch y Groes and then downhill to the finish at Llanberis.

John completed the challenging Marathon in a time of 3.58.38 to secure 280th position out of a strong field of 810 runners.

Saturday 30 October in Stadt Moers Park, Whiston, Chris Marshall, running second claim for the City of Chester Triathlon Club, competed in the first round of the Liverpool and District Cross Country League. Covering approximately 6.5 miles over four laps, Chris finished in 49th place in a time of 44.54 and was the first scoring member of the Tri club, the team finished in 7th place overall.
