Wrecsam Tri were host of the fifth round of the borders league on Sunday 9th March and organized an undulating 5 mile (approx) route in Mold. While their were some excellent individual results, within the team event results were less favorable. The women once again produced an excellent 2nd place in division 2, unfortunately, the two teams above them in the promotion slots also had good results. So while the ladies team continue to move closer to the promotion places, with only two races to go, the team needs a mistake from others to gain a promotion spot. The men's team slipped to 5th and while are currently safe any further mistakes could see the team fall into a relegation battle.
Within the individual results, things were much brighter with Ian Cooper finishing first for the club in 14th place and 1st place in the V45 age group in a time of 27:51. Second in the ladies Vet 50 age group was Madeline Bird with a time of 39:41 and Alison McDonald finishing 3rd in the LV40 age group. The rest of the teams were Denis Duret 28:45, Simon Jeffs 28:55, Chris Marshall 30:33, Tony Hyland 31:33, Matthew Whitfield 31:58, Dave Nalder 32:02, Danny Legg 32:04, Jason Bennett 34:29, John Cole 34:37, Alison Hughes 35:42, and completing the line up Nigel Crierie 40:26.
The men's race was won by Alun Vaughn from Eryri Harriers in a time of 25:53, with Prestatyn running club member Isabelle Redfern winning the ladies race in 30:53. Within the overall standings, Ian Cooper, & Madeline bird both consolidate their hold on second place in their respective categories (V45 & LV50), with Matthew Whitfield (3rd) and Dave Nalder (4th) continue to battling it out for 3rd spot in the V50 category.
