Crossing the Borders

Flintshire 10k - 1.10.06

Simon Jeffs maintained his impressive recent form by landing a superb 9th place overall in a time of 36m 18s, a mere 1 second outside his PB set only 1 week earlier. Next weekends David Lloyd 10k could see Simon land his latest PB at this distance.

Sandstone Trail race – 1.10.06

Although managing to sneak under the writer’s radar when clocking a tasty 1hr 34m 25s in the 10 mile short race, Dave Roberts excellent finish was fortunately captured on the GATSO by the race organisers thereby ending all speculation as to his whereabouts on the day.

Borders League Race 1 – 8.10.06

Glorious weather and a fast, flat, (almost) traffic free, course ushered in the first borders race of the season. Playing host to teams from Wirral, Cheshire and North Wales, Ellesmere Port Running Club put on yet another excellently managed race. A special thanks to all the marshals for ensuring that the race went smoothly and safely.

Ladies Captain, Nicky Bird, led home the ladies team in imperious style. After holding off strong early competition Nicky struck for home at the half way point to leave her challengers floundering in her wake. Fellow team members; Alison Hughes, Alison Macdonald and Nicky’s mum, Madeleine Bird, all put in strong performances to lay down a solid foundation on which the team can base a charge up the first division table. We really do want to see all our lady members turn out in all races but especially the Borders, so a clarion call goes out to you all (you know who you are!), to attend the next race on Sunday 12th November 2006, hosted by Eryri Harriers (Caernarfon).

Not to be outdone (or outrun) by the ladies, the mens team also registered impressive early season displays.  Running hard and fast from the off, Steve Crowe strode home to finish in 3rd place overall. Quickly following in Steve was Ian Cooper in 8th. Ian is now clearly over his recent injury and has fought hard to get back into the speedster groove. New York Marathon and wedded bliss bound Mark Dodd turned in another sparkling performance. If he can avoid injury Mark will surely take a huge bite out of his marathon PB in the Big Apple. Further meritorious displays were put in by the rest of the team including; Denis Duret, Paul Robertson, Brian Griffiths, Chris Marshall, Ian Robinson, John Hawker, John Jennings, Dave Nalder, Alan Durston, Les Fleetwood, and Nigel Cririe.

Next weekend will see EPRC runners gracing the fields of the David Lloyd 10k and The Great Cumbrian Run Half Marathon.
