SUMMER SUNSHINE BRINGS EPRC RUNNERS OUT IN FORCE

Last weekends fabulous sunshine encouraged good numbers of EPRC runners to lace up their running shoes and head out to various races.

Christleton 5k on 9 May 2008

A total of 8 EPRC runners made the short trip along the A41 to race around the quiet country lanes in and about Christleton. Their effort certainly paid dividends with a number of excellent performances resulting in several Personal Bests. First home for the club, and 4th overall, showing a particularly welcome return to form, was Steve Crowe in 15m40s (PB). Next in, for 25th overall, was the ever improving jet powered Simon Jeffs in 16m54s (PB), who just managed to hold off the flying Frenchman, Denis Duret, who clocked 16m55s for 26th spot. Extremely encouraging future potential was demonstrated by a number of the club’s recent recruits with Paul Ashley leading the way, and just missing out on dipping under 19m, to finish in 19m6s (PB) for 86th place. Paul will surely get under that 19m mark next time out. He was followed in by a trio of ladies led by Julie Pearce in 27m15s (205th)(PB), with Janet Agnew in 27m51s (235th)(PB) just behind, and finally Heather Agnew in 31m5s (239th).

Cheshire Track & Field Championships on 10 May 2008.

Not content with setting a blistering PB on the previous evening, Steve ‘flies like a’ Crowe powered round the track in impressive style to win the 5,000 race in 16m15.7s, and in the process even managed to lap the second placed runner!

Market Drayton 10k on 11 May 2008

Making this a regular feature on the race calendar, 5 of EPRC’s finest travelled to Market Drayton not only to collect the generous goody bag, and as many free yoghurts as could be had, but also to take part in this scenic flat race. First home for the club, and 49th overall, was Chris Marshall in 40m1s. Chris would surely have dipped under 40m had he resisted the temptation to look over his shoulder on the line to check the whereabouts of Matt Whitfield, who stormed over the line in 40m19s (54th). Matt must surely be confident of gaining that elusive sub 3hr PB in the upcoming Edinburgh Marathon. Next home was Jason Bennett in 46m54s (207th), followed in by Madeleine Bird in 51m30s (325th) and Nigel Crieri in 54m24s(399th)

Liverpool Women’s 10k on 11 May 2008

EPRC’s sole representative at the Women’s 10k was Alison Macdonald who appears to have paid the price for a recent intense training schedule so soon after her excellent effort at the London Marathon when clocking a disappointing 45m56s. However, Alison should reap the benefit of this speed session in several upcoming races.
