Big turnout helps EPRC bag bumper Borders points haul
Another excellent turnout of 22 runners in Race 3 of the highly competitive Border’s League on Sunday 10.12.06 saw both the ladies and mens teams cement positions close enough to the top of the respective Divisions 1 to be seriously considered as potential winners come April 07.
Excellent performances in the ladies competition by birds of feather, Madelaine and Nicky Bird, confirmed their status as leading runners in the region and both now top their respective age categories. Nicky, putting team interests ahead of her own in running despite injury, was still able to finish 4th overall in 33m06s. Nicky was ably supported by fellow team members’ Alison Hughes in 35m10s, mum Madelaine in 39m21s, and Natasha Hadley in 42m11s. The ladies team although currently residing 6th in Division1 remain on course to seriously challenge for the title.
Another highly impressive display from on song Steve Crowe saw him post 27m32s for 2nd place on the day to retain his place as 1st overall in the senior men category. Excellent running from all scoring men: Ian Cooper, 28m28s, Simon Jeffs, 29m24s, Denis Duret, 29m49s, Mark Dodd, 30m04s, Keith Jones, 30m30s, Steve Laker, 31m41s, Matt Whitfield, 32m07s, Danny Legg, 32m39, and Brian Griffiths, 33m01s, helped the mens team to 2nd place on the day. The teams strength in depth was evident in the superb times posted by the rest of the team, Keith Musson, 33m41s, John Jennings, 33m59s, John Hawker, 34m04s, Dave Nalder, 34m09s, Dave Roberts, 35m54s, Les Fleetwood, 38m08s, Jeff Hadley, 40m18s, and Nigel Crierie, 40m31s, which pushed other teams runners further down the field and reduced their points scoring, and helped to put the mens team in 3rd overall but within comfortable striking distance of the top spot.
