Gold Rush for Ellesmere Port Running Club at Trimpell 20
The number of outstanding performances being delivered on a shockingly regular basis by the Glorious Gold vested Ellesmere Port Running Club members brings to mind Harold Macmillan’s refrain, “You’ve never had it so good”. This was certainly clearly demonstrated at last Sunday’s Trimpell 20 mile race.
As part of their marathon training schedules half a dozen runners made the long trip to Morecambe. However, the journey was most definitely worth it as all posted excellent times in the windy conditions, but particular mention must go to Mark Dodd, 2hr8m53s (10th overall), Steve Laker 2hr11m34s (20th overall), and Matt Whitfield, 2hr12m31s (25th overall), who created club history by storming to first place in the men’s team competition.
The trio of Danny Legg 2hr24m12s (78th overall), Madelaine Bird, 2hr44m56s (169th overall), and Nigel Crieri, 2hr53m6s (196th overall) were equally delighted with their own individual performances, as evidenced on their shiny happy faces as they crossed the finish line. With the Spring marathon season only weeks away each runner must surely take a great deal of confidence into every race because as Spandau Ballet so eloquently put it: “Gold always believe in your soul, you’ve got the power to know you’re indestructible…”
