Friday night saw 13 Ellesmere Port runners make the short
trip to Upton for the West
Cheshire 5K road race.
The race starts at Cheshire county council sports club
and then exits onto the country lanes before returning
back to the club to complete the 3.1 mile course.
First runner home for Ellesmere Port was Steve Crowe who had
a terrific race to finish 19th overall and smash his PB by over
a minute finishing in 16mins 54secs.
Not to far behind Steve came Denis Duret who finished in 26th
position in 17.08. Next runner home for EPRC and first lady was
Nicky Bird whose running just keeps getting faster with each
race as Nicky set another excellent PB of 17.31 to finish 2nd
in the ladies race just behind Olivia Renshaw of Vale Royal.
Chris Marshall was next home in a personal best time of 18.41
(67th), Chris was followed by captain Matt Whitfield and Tony
Hyland both finishing in 18.51 (74th & 75th). Dave Nalder
was next home in 19.10 (81st) followed by early race leader John
Jennings in also 19.10 (84th). Ian Robinson was next EPRC runner
home knocking a couple of seconds of his PB to finish in 19.47
(95th). Steve Blaylock was next home in 19.57 (99th) followed
by Alan Durston who clocked his quickest time of the year 20.13
(107th), Chris Bennion finished in 21.05 (126th) and finally
Alison Macdonald finished in 21.14 (127th).
Last Tuesday saw two EPRC runners participate in an Open track
meeting in Stretford, Manchester. First to go was Steve Crowe
who entered an 800 metre race and finished in a superb 2mins
7secs taking four seconds off his PB, Steve, who led the race
from the start flew passed the bell at 400metres in 61 seconds
but couldn’t quite sustain the pace on the last lap and
had to settle for 2nd place one second behind the winner.
Nicky Bird opted for a 1500 metre race and produced the goods
again shaving a massive six seconds off her personal best to
win the race in 4.46. Nicky, who controlled the race from the
start had to find an extra gear on the last lap as an athlete
from Sale Harriers started to close in and this contributed to
Nicky’s quick time.
The Capenhurst Multi Terrain 9 mile race took place two weeks
ago and involved two EPort runners.
In the 3 person team event Ian Cooper running with two West
Cheshire AC runners made up the winning team and club captain
Matt Whitfield also running with two West Cheshire AC runners
lead his team to an excellent 2nd to finish runners up.
