95 ladies including a superb contingent of Ellesmere Ports finest
travelled over for Spectrum Striders friendly 5k last Wednesday
evening. In extremely warm conditions but no wind, some great racing
was done. Winning the race was Liz Whitfield of Spectrum in a superb
18:10 (5:50 m/m) which for ladies running is right up there. 2nd
place went to EPRC's very own Nicola Bird in a great time of 18:56
(6:05 m/m) which is her fastest running for some time with a sprint
in to hold off 3rd place Tessa McCormick of Vale Royale AC who
recorded the same time.
Alison Cole was next EPRC home in 8th position in 20:20 (6:32 m/m)
claiming 1st L35 prize in the process. She was followed by Mandy
McGonigle in 30th place in 23:37 (7:36 m/m), With Madeline Bird not
far behind capturing 40th place in 24:28 (7:52 m/m) Overall, EPRC's
ladies managed a fantastic 3rd spot in the team event out of 15
competing teams.
Over
in Stockport on his way home from work was Mark Dodd doing a cheeky
10k which backfired badly with 164 other runners. Little did Mark
know that the 3 lap park course has a killer hill that with 3 laps,
doesn't make for a quick course. Posting his slowest 10k time in
nearly 4 years Mark finished 15th overall in 40:27 (6:31 m/m) vowing
never to just "turn up" at a race again.
Winning the race was David Hamilton of Southport Waterloo in 36:01
(5:47 m/m), 2nd was Simon Grundy of East Cheshire in 36:10 (5:48
m/m) with 3rd spot going to Howard Mead of Manchester Tri in 36:47
(5:55 m/m).
The
ladies was won by Ruth Jenyon of Stockport in 43:40 (7:02 m/m), with
2nd going to Sarah Aylmer also of Stockport in 43:48 (7:03 m/m) and
3rd going to Kerrie Wood in 43:56 (7:04).
