On Sunday 16th December, 5 club runners made the trip to Wrexham to take part in the Helena Tipping 10k. In temperatures just above zero, the runners set off on this fast course with just a slight incline between 4-5miles. This judging by their times and postions did not effect too seriously our runners, as all club members produced pleasing performances. While three runners finished in the top 3 in their respective age categories, the plaudits on this day belong to Mark Dodd & Chris Marshall. Both runners have been unable to run for months due to major injures, yet with only 3 weeks training are posting times that most can only dream about. They set themselves the tough target of 42 minutes, but both runners did considerably better, with Mark completing the course in 39:53 and Chris hot on his heals with a time of 40:47.
The first runner home for the club was Stephen Laker who not only managed a PB but also finished for the first time in the top 10 (8th) of a race and 3rd in the new age group of M35, in a time of 35:17. Simon Jeffs finished just behind, also in 3rd place in SM category with a time of 35:28, completing the line up was Alison Macdonald also securing 3rd place in W40 age group in 44:44. Adam Peers from Liverpool Harriers AC won the men’s race with a time of 32:37, Kelly Crickmore from Chester City Tri Club, won the women’s race in a new course record time 36:52.
