Ellesmere Port running club are hoping to attract runners
from all over the region when they stage their annual road
race the Capenhurst 5K next Wednesday 25th August starting
at 7pm. The race that is based at the Electricity
sports and social club, Capenhurst Technology Park starts near
the Church on Capenhurst Lane and heads off down Rectory
Lane through Ledsham and back up Capenhurst Lane from the
Chester High Road finishing near to BNFL to complete the
3.1 miles. The club is hoping runners and joggers of all
ability turn out to make the occasion a success for the
town.
On the race scene over the last 7 days it was another race and
another win for our top lady runner Nicky Bird who participated
in the last of the Sale
Sizzler 5K series last Thursday evening.
Nicky, won the ladies race in a time of 17.51 in a field that
consisted of no fewer than 135 female runners.
In the men’s race at Sale, Ian Cooper was first runner
home for the club completing the course in 17.00 to finish 21st
overall and 3rd in the V40 category. Tony Hyland was the next
runner for the club finishing 31st in a time of 17.39. Finally
club captain Matt Whitfield who has been trying to break 18.30
for 5K this season proved that persistence pays off by achieving
this and finishing the race in a personal best time of 18.28
which was good enough to give him first spot in the V45 category.
Last Friday saw the final race in the Oswestry Olympian pentarathon,
the Chariots
of Fire 5K. Currently lying 3rd in the series Denis
Duret produced another solid run to complete the course in a
time of 17.13. Tony Hyland who had just run the Sale 5K the night
before also participated in the race and finished in a time of
17.54.
