Runners Prepare for Capenhurst 5K Race

Next Wednesday 24 th August sees the third staging of Ellesmere Port's running club annual 5K race starting at 7pm. . The race that is based at the Electricity sports and social club, Capenhurst Technology Park starts near the Church on Capenhurst Lane and heads off down Rectory Lane through Ledsham and back up Capenhurst Lane from the Chester High Road finishing near to Urenco to complete the 3.11 miles. With prize money on offer thanks to the sponsorship of Urenco (Capenhurst) Ltd the club is hoping to attract some top athletes from the region in addition to local club & unattached runners.

On the road races scene over the last few weeks several Ellesmere Port Runners have been in action.

Starting with last Thursday's Manchester Sizzler 5K, Chris Marshall finished in a handy 18.39 (64 th) after only recently starting to train again after a few months out.

Just a few seconds behind Chris was Ellesmere Port's recent acquisition Mark Dodd who produced an excellent time of 18.42 (66 th) knocking a massive 1 minute 17 seconds from his previous outing in the last sizzler just two weeks earlier.

On Sunday 7 th August 2005 Mark Dodd was in action again this time in the Moonraker 10K in Middleton where he clocked a personal best time for the distance of 40.14 for 62 nd position and looks like he will be a good points scorer for this winters Border's League.

On the same day not to far away two EPRC runners competed in the Sale 10 miler.

First runner home for the club was Andrew Hunt who finished in 1.14.02 for 144 th position. Running her first race at the distance was Alison Hughes who tackled the course in a good time of 1.18.38 for 177 th position overall and 12 th senior lady.

Thursday 4 th August saw no fewer than 11 runners take part in the penultimate Deestriders off road 5 mile race. The finishers were as follows: Ian Cooper 28.21 (14 th), Steve Crowe 28.44 (17 th), Denis Duret 29.10(21 st), Nicky Bird 30.12 (28 th, 2 nd lady), Chris Marshall 31.09 (35 th), Matt Whitfield 31.33 (38 th), Paul Welsh 33.57 PB (60 th), Steve Blaylock 34.00 (61 st), Les Fleetwood 34.01 (62 nd), Andrew Hunt 36.26 (73 rd), Alison Hughes 36.34 PB (75 th).

Wednesday 3 rd August saw three EPRC runners take part in the tough Pie & Pies 5 mile race in Winsford.

Wrapping up another victory for the year was Nicky Bird who won the ladies race in a time of 32.10.

Matt Whitfield was the first male EPRC runner to finish after posting a time of 32.59 and was followed home by Mark Dodd who posted a time of 33.55.

Two Ellesmere Port runners made the trip over to Liverpool on Wednesday 20 th July for the popular Sefton Park 5 mile race.

First runner home for the club was Steve Crowe who finished in a personal best time for the distance of 28.19 to secure 12 th position.

Steve was followed shortly after by Denis Duret who finished on 29.45 for 24 th position.
