Saturday 15th September saw two teams from Ellesmere Port take part in the 8th North West Counties Road Relays in Sefton Park, Liverpool. The two teams went into the event with high hopes, spurred on after last year's success in gaining 3rd-place in Cheshire. The 5.3K twisting 2-lap course made for some very competitive running, which the boys in Orange were more than willing to take on. With excellent times posted by runners in both teams, demonstrates that the club continues to go from strength to strength.
The ‘A’ team comprising of Stephen Laker, Steve Crowe, Ian Cooper, & Simon Jeffs secured Silver in the Cheshire category, with a collective time of 70:30, behind Vale Royal (68:37). The ‘B’ team comprising of Denis Duret, Matthew Whitfield, Danny Legg & Chris Marshall finished in 32nd place overall out of 51 teams with a combined time of 77:02. With runners returning to form after injury, the emergence of new talent, and the ever-increasing ability shown throughout the club, it will not be too long before the club secures Gold in this competition.
Summer Multi-Terrain League - RACE 2 Harrison Drive
The action for the second round of this weekly event switched from the trails of Royden Park to beach & sand dunes of Wallasey. Many had run Lake Vrynwy half Marathon two days earlier, however, this did not stop them from posting some great times in this strength sapping race. First home, with another fine performance in this series, was Ian Cooper in 11th place (24:47). Closely followed by Denis Duret (25:31), Keith Jones (25:58), and talented new recruit Gary Bird (26:06), Matt Whitfield (27:32), Mike Burns (28:14), Danny Legg (28:45), and Roy Traynor (30:18). First Lady for the club was Alison MacDonald (31:43), followed by and making a welcome return from injury was Madeleine Bird (35:32), and Nigel Crierie (38:56) completed this impressive club turnout.
