117 runners made the journey over the Warrington for Burtonwood
Bridges popular if not the fastest 5 mile road race due to
undulations on the course. Conditions were good if a little windy
and two Ellesmere Port representatives made the trip, Roy Traynor
and Denis Duret both looking for quick times.
First home for the club was Denis in 11th place overall in a time of
28:52 (5:46 m/m). Roy Traynor however seems to be turning back time
in true Cher fashion coming past the finishing post in his quickest
5 mile time in some years in 48th overall and 33:33 (6:42 m/m)
beating last years time by over one and half minutes.
Winning the race in 26:52 (5:22 m/m) was John Ashcroft of St
Helens-Sutton AC, 2nd was Gareth Booth of Horwich RMI Harriers in
26:57 (5:23 m/m) with 3rd going to Brendon Rothery of Eyri Harriers
in 27:18 (5:27 m/m). The ladies race was won by Emma Parry of
Wrexham AC, partner of EPRC's Steve Crowe in 31:24 (6:16 m/m) and
27th position overall. 2nd lady was Jayne Taylor in 34th from Wigan
Phoenix in 32:08 (6:25 m/m) and 3rd was Bev Wright of Blackpool in
37th place and 32:22 (6:29 m/m).

London Great City 5k Race 15th
July
Down London, Mike Burns was ripping up the tarmac in true style
racing "The Standard Chartered Great City Race". Joining him were
over 6500 other runners trying to take his scalp, however Mike had
other ideas.
This is London’s premier corporate running challenge and the race is
run on 5km of closed-off streets within the famous Square
Mile, apparently weaving past the historic landmarks of St Paul’s
Cathedral and the Bank of England, although Mike managed to miss
seeing both due to exertions of racing.
Mike finished with a superb 19:04 (6:08 m/m) which is his fastest 5k
time in 5 years since his PB of 18:37 in 151st position. With
absolutely top class runners in the field, this is a superb run from
Mike.
Winning the race in a stunning time of 14:07 (4:32 m/m) was Phil
Wicks of Legal & General, 2nd was Toby Lambert of Adidas UK in 15:02
(4:50 m/m) and 3rd was James McMullen of KPMG1 in 15:12 (4:53 m/m).
First lady home was Emily Adams of Punter Southall in 17:03 (5:29
m/m), 2nd was Jenny Lundgren of Standard Chartered Bank in 17:51
(5:44 m/m) and 3rd was Samantha Amend of Symantec in 17:56 (5:55
m/m).
