Alan Durston who competed in Trimpell 20

Trimpell 20 mile race tests Port runners.

Eleven Ellesmere Port runners headed to Morecambe last Sunday to compete in the Trimpell 20 mile race with most runners using this race as a progress check for next months London marathon.

The race was won by Lancs & Morecambe AC runner Michael Aspinall in 1 hour 49 minutes and 14 seconds.

First runner home for Ellesmere Port was Tony Hyland who tackled the course in 2.09.16 for 15 th position.

Paul Robertson was the second runner home for the club after finishing the race in 2.11.01 to secure 18 th position and 2 nd in the Over 40's category.

Nicky Bird was the next runner home for the club in 2.14.41 for 36 th position but more importantly she was the first lady to cross the line after finishing a minute ahead of the second lady Candice Leah of Clayton Le Moors.

Matt Whitfield was soon to follow crossing the line in 37 th position in a time of 2.14.49 and was followed by Dave Winder who finished 41 st in 2.16.32.

Steve Blaylock was the 6 th EPRC runner to finish after clocking 2.34.31 for 112 th position. Alan Durston was next in after negotiating the course in 2.43.16 for 148 th position and was soon followed by Paul Pinkham who continues to grow in confidence after finishing in 2.43.42 for 153 rd place.

A gutsy run by Amanda Penfold saw her just miss out on breaking 3 hours after completing the race in 3.00.32.

Tracey Lewis-Jones running her first competitive race in a while was next to follow after finishing in 3.07.02 for 260 th position and was immediately followed by Brian Treadwell who completed the EPRC finishes in 3.07.33 for 261 st place.

Last Sunday also saw the staging of the Wilmslow half marathon that had almost 5000 runners competing in the race.

Tomas Abyu of Salford Harriers was the overall winner of the race after crossing the line in 1 hour 6 minutes and eleven seconds.

Of the Ellesmere Port runners Simon Jeffs was first home in 1.24.55 to secure 129 th position and was supported by Dave Nalder who finished the race in 1.31.02 for 331 st place.

On the 13 th March Les Fleetwood competed in one of the first 5K races of the year. The St-Helens-Sutton 5K.

Les finished the hilly course in a time of 20.42 securing 17 th position and 2 nd in the Vet 45 Category.
