Steve storms home in Preston 10 miler

Steve Laker’s running continues to go from strength to strength as amply demonstrated by his seriously quick time of 1hr 2m58s in the Preston 10 mile road race held on 19.11.06.  Steve’s finishing position of 67th highlighted the quality of the 476 strong field, with the race being won by Sale Harriers Rick Hayman in 52m4s. Steve is clearly benefiting from the dedicated approach he is taking to his running, and also from the support, encouragement and competition provided by his fellow club members. Although Steve may have previously been tempted to plot a Safeway through the filed, his increased confidence and blossoming talent meant that he simply stacked the majority of his rivals in his wake. On this form he surely has more reasons, more reasons, more reasons to shop around for further challenges and tests of character.

The plaudits keep piling up for the Elton flier, Mark Dodd, who now finds himself sitting pretty in this year’s top 10 Cheshire club runners over the marathon distance. With plans (hopes?) to dip under 2hr40m in London in 2007 Mark will surely be aiming for a top 5 slot next year.

Forthcoming races include: Borders League Race 3 on 26.11.06, Stockport 10 Mile on 10.12 06 and the Chester Round the Walls on 26.12.06.
