Birchwood 10K

The popular Birchwood 10K (Near Warrington) which incorporates the Cheshire 10K championship was staged last Sunday with a record 938 participants.

The winner of the race was Thembelain Zola whose winning time was a speedy 29.53. Mike Proudlove of City of Stoke AC was second in 31.56 and Colin Rigby of Horwich RMI was third in 32.21.

Steve Crowe was the first Ellesmere Port RC runner to cross the line after finishing 35 seconds quicker than his time last year in 35.20 taking 29 th position overall and 9 th in the Cheshire Championships.

Mark Dodd continued his remarkable improvement with each race after smashing the 40 minute barrier for the first time and taking a minute of his PB with a time of 39.07 for 114 th position overall.

Chris Marshall was the next runner home for the club after struggling home with a time of 41.38 for 191 st position.

Mike Mcshane posted a good time of 45.27 (345 th) in his first 10K outing for quite some years.

The final EPRC runner to finish the race was Brian Treadwell who was quite pleased with his time of 48.51 (494 th) having not trained for a few months.

On Saturday the 22 nd staging of the Tywyn Race the train was staged in Mid Wales.

Race the Train takes place alongside, as far as practicable, the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back. 

The main race is over a distance of 14.7 miles and the terrain includes public roads, lanes, unmetalled roads, tracks, agricultural land, and rough grazing pastures.

Denis Duret was Ellesmere Port RC's only runner in the main race and finished approximately 5 minutes behind the train.

Earlier in the day Keith Musson participated in the shorter race over 10.5K
