The Tattenhall
Tough Team Challenge was staged last Friday
night with eleven Ellesmere Port RC runners tackling the
9.5 mile multi terrain race around the roads and countryside
of Tattenhall and surrounding villages. The race is run
in teams of three with finishing times given when the last
team member crosses the line. The course has some challenging
hills and includes one of the toughest climbs around that
have runners crawling on their hands and knees to reach
the top or at the least walking slowly up the extremely
long and steep steps.
First team home for Ellesmere Port was the trio of Ian Cooper,
Nicky Bird and Steve Crowe finishing 7th overall and 3rd in the
mixed race in a time of 1.03.58. Matt Whitfield, Danny Legg and
John Jennings were the next EPRC team home finishing in 1.06.58
and impressively finishing runners up in the Vet’s Category.
The next team home was Tony Smith, Chris Marshall and Wirral
AC’s Mark Morris who completed the race in 1.08.42. The
Final team for EPRC was made up of Steve Blaylock, Les Fleetwood
and Alison Macdonald and they had a finishing time of 1.15.25
Other Races over the Weekend saw John Jennings participate in
the Blackpool Marathon. John, who competed in the 22 mile Man –v-
Horse run last weekend and Tattenhall on Friday only decided
to do the Marathon on Saturday night and was tried to be talked
out of it by his fellow club runners as being one race too many
in such a short space of time, however determined as ever John
smashed his PB to finish in an excellent time of 3.31.55. In
the Blackpool Half Marathon that started at the same time Madeleine
Bird completed the 13.11 mile distance in a satisfactory 1.53.24
From one seaside resort to another saw Steve Crowe head to Rhyl
for the Eddie Faure 10K multi-terrain race. Steve, who hasn’t
run too many long races of recent due to the track season completed
the course in 37.37 to finish 8th overall.
