Home turf pays dividends - Summer Multi Terrain League - RACE 3 - Rivacre Valley
The third round of the multi terrain series was on familiar ground for club members, who took full advantage of this two-lap course of Rivacre Valley (approximately 3.85 miles) to secure some excellent results in their respective categories.
first in Vet 50 was Matt Whitfield with a time of 25:44, however not to be outshone was Ian Cooper, who not only finished 9th overall, but was also 2nd in the Vet 40 age group with a time of 23:25. Also 2nd in her respective group (L50) was Madeleine Bird, who is very quickly coming back to form after her recent injury. Showing that good running runs in the family, is new recruit and one to watch Gary Bird with 3rd place in the very competitive under 30 age group. SUTTON SIX 10K
Sunday 23rd saw six club members head to Guilden Sutton for the annual Sutton 6 10k. First home for the club and beginning to hit some grate form was Steve Crowe with the time of 33:55 in 7th place overall. With the borders league series beginning in a few weeks time Steve looks in great shape to defend his title. Next was Stephen Laker in a time of 35:54, followed by Danny Legg (41:53). Worth a special mention was Michael Burns (42:22). Mike not content with running a lung busting 6.2 mile run also cycled to the race. With this sort of form duathlons & triathlons must be a serious consideration for the future. Next was Alison MacDonald, with a time of 45:05 that secured her a very impressive second in the Vet 40 category. Completing lineup for Ellesmere Port was John Jennings in 45:47. The winner was David Norman from Altrincham & District AC with the very impressive time of 31:54.
Admiral Swansea Bay 10k
Two club members made the trip down to Swansea to take part in this event. In torrential rain both runners set about their task and were pleased with their times, especially considering the long-term injury problems both have been plagued with this year. At the time of going to press only provisional times were available, but these times must be pleasing. Brian Griffiths secured a time of 43:47, all looks very promising for the New Year. Completing the duo was Kevin Curtis with a time of 48 min. The winner was Ethiopia & Birchfield Harriers runner Tewodros Shiferaw in 29:38.
