Check out the scenery says Ellesmere Port Running Club’s Paul Robertson

Waddington 10k – 22.10.06

A quiet weekend for races saw Paul Robertson as Ellesmere Port Running Club’s sole racer in a competitive event. Paul took the opportunity (pretext?) of visiting friends to undertake the not inconsiderable challenge of the Waddington 10k, the first 2k of which was uphill, followed by a short period of undulating hills, before another tough uphill section up to the half way point. From 5k to 8k the course followed a pleasant gradual downhill before hitting another sharp leg sapping hill before the finish.

Enhancing the club’s growing competitive reputation, Paul completed the challenging course in 38m20s to finish in 18th position overall and 5th in the male over 40 category. Paul, describing the race as ‘a nice scenic run’, was quick to confirm that he was in no way discouraged from securing 17th position overall by finding himself running just behind the first lady home, Salford Harriers’ Rachel Jones, for the best part of the race. Paul Freary of Belgrave Harriers won the race in a very fast time of 31m51s.

Saab Salomon Hell Up North – 29.10.06

Next weekend sees a number of Ellesmere Port Running Club’s finest take part in the inaugural Saab Salomon Hell Up North race in Delamere Forest. The organisers promise between 10-12 miles of off-road running over tough twisting trails including wetlands and bogs and, of course, the Hills of Hell! The Finish will bring redemption...but only to the successful. Watch this space!

Sharon and Mark’s wedding – 29.10.06

Best wishes and good luck to Mark Dodd and his bride to be, Sharron, from everyone at the Club. Following their nuptials Sharon and Mark will be jetting off to the US of A for their honeymoon, where coincidentally and with a great measure of tolerance on the part of the future Mrs Dodd, Mark will be running the New York Marathon, hopefully in a time well under 3 hours!
