Large numbers of Ellesmere Port Running Club’s members have been out and about over the last couple of weeks with races at this time of year coming thick and fast.
Several members seemingly benefited from the novel experience of running through the Wallasey tunnel by posting several excellent times. First home for the club was Paul Robertson in 37m.42s, quickly followed by Steve Tague in 38m.06s, with Steve Laker, displaying fine form before the Berlin Marathon, obliterating his PB by nearly 3 minutes to record 38m.54s. Brian Griffiths was next home in 40m.19s with Jeff Hadley and Natasha Hadley, setting a new PB, not too far behind.
At this year’s North West Road Relays held in Stockport the senior mens team (Steve Crowe 17m.58s, Ian Cooper 19m.46s, Chris Marshall 20m.42s, Simon Jeffs 19m.15s) produced strong performances over the 5.6km course to secure a commendable 3rd place in the Cheshire competition. The senior ladies team (Nicky Bird 11m.41s, Alison Macdonald 13m.30s, Alison Hughes 13m.30s) running a shorter 3km course agonisingly missed out on a similar achievement by just 9 seconds! A depleted veteran mens team (Matt Whitfield 21mins 42seconds, Mike Burns 20m.07s, Denis Duret 21m.03s) performed well but unfortunately did not figure amongst the prizes due to being a man short on the day.
Autumn 5km Time Trial – 22.9.06
Congratulations to fast improving first placed lady, Natasha Hadley, (who also set another PB), and first placed man, Keith Musson, who is hopefully returning to something like his best form.
Internationals
Sunday 24.9.06 saw Steve Laker post a magnificent PB of 3hr 22min 08sec in the Berlin Marathon. A sub 3hr.20m marathon is surely on the cards for Steve next time out. Closer to home Brian Griffiths delivered another first class performance in crossing the line in the Swansea 10k in 42m12s.
Steve Crowe (33m.42s) turned in another star turn to secure 2nd place in this highly competitive race, which performance also saw him deservedly named Cheshire 10k Champion. Not far behind came Simon Jeffs setting a magnificent (but likely to be short lived) new PB at 36m17s. Alison Hughes (43m.) put in another creditable run and was followed in race machine John Jennings (50m.)
Liverpool Corporate Cup 5k – 24.9.06
Despite having to contend with torrential rain both ‘injury plagued’ Mike Burns (19m.01s) and ‘tired’ Alison Macdonald (21m.12s) ran solidly to secure top 10 and top 4 places respectively.
