Nicky secures home win at Capenhurst 5K

Ellesmere Port Running Club successfully staged the 3 rd Capenhurst 5K on Wednesday 24 th August 2005 with a record 129 finishers.
In the men's race Wirral based runner Jonny Mellor of Liverpool Harriers stormed to victory in 15 minutes and 5 seconds to set a new course record. Mike Proudlove of City of Stoke was 2 nd in 15.26 and Peter Lambert of Deeside AAC 3 rd in 15.46.

Steve Crowe was the first Ellesmere Port male runner to cross the line after posting a time of 16.47 to secure 8 th position. Ian Cooper was soon to follow after finishing in 16.56 for 10 th position.

Mark Dodd set yet another PB in his first season after averaging 5.59 per mile to finish in 18.37 for 31 st place.

Steve Blaylock was the final Ellesmere Port runner to finish after running 20.26 to secure 66 th position.

On the ladies race a home victory was secured by Nicky Bird who managed to overtake Wrexham AAC's Emma Parry after 4 kilometres and finish in a winning time of 17.53, four seconds ahead of 2 nd place Emma 17.57. Ruth Hetherington also of Wrexham AAC finished 3 rd in 18.32.

Alison Macdonald was the other Ellesmere Port lady to finish after clocking a time of 21.13 to finish 77 th overall and 2 nd in the Ladies Vet 35 category.

In other races Dave Sargent ran his first race on Bank Holiday Monday after falling ill after the London Marathon by completing a 4 mile Mountain Race up Moel Famau that starts and finishes in the Welsh village of Cilcain.
