Thick on the ground and fast over it EPRC runners have certainly been extremely busy over the past couple of weeks racing over a myriad of distances but all posting great times.
Thurstaston Multi Terrain 10k – 20 May 2008
This cracking annual off-road race again attracted a large field eager to test their mettle by battling against the rough terrain of the rocky beach, the hill climb and finally the fast flat mad dash to the finish. Ian Cooper led home the EPRC contingent landing 5th place in a time of 36m54s, quickly followed in by Graham Earlam, 6th in 38m31s, with Chris Marshall hot on his tail in 9th in 38m56s. Next home was Mike Burns, 22nd in 41m57s, staying ahead of Alison Macdonald, 44th, in 45m10s, Mark Fidler, 53rd in 47m6s, and Julie Foster, 119th in 59m2s.
North Cheshire 5k – 23 May 2008
Denis Duret was EPRC’s sole representative in this race clocking a decent time of 17m15s.
Chorley 10 mile – 25 May 2008
Race machine Graham Earlam made the trip north to Peter Kaye country to compete in one of the few remaining local races over this distance. Although running in difficult windy weather Graham’s journey was well rewarded with a time of 63m32s but on the day he could not match the outright speed of Steve Laker who bagged a very creditable 60m55s.
Rhyl Sun Centre 5k – 28 May 2008
Continuing his impressive return to form in this competitive race was Steve Crowe who secured a fantastic 3rd place finish in a time of 16m18s. It surely won’t be long before Steve is back on top of the podium.
Tunnel 10k – 1 June 2008
Seven EPRC runners enjoyed the novelty, if the not the heat, of running through the Wallasey tunnel in this increasingly popular 10k. First home for the club was Brian Griffiths, 42m40s, who with grim determination just managed to hold off the strong challenge of John Hawker, 42m44s. Disappointingly just missing out on the prizes, finishing 4th lady overall but first lady vet 40, was Alison Macdonald, 44m27s. Next in was John Jennings, 45m3s, with Mark Fidler, 46m27s, and Julia Fidler, 55m56s, not too far behind. Finally, but with clearly great scope for improvement with more training and racing, was Carmel Barnett in 1hr10m12s.
Finally, I must mention Lindsey Worthington who was one of EPRC’s contingent in the recent Edinburgh Marathon and finished in a fine time of 4hr48m11s.
