An unusual but fantastically enjoyable team event run over nine and half miles mix of road and trail, including the infamous near vertical railway, with only the slowest runner’s time in each team of three scoring. This race proved as popular as ever with EPRC runners.
Just missing out on first place by a measly 3 seconds was EPRC’s first string of Paul Robertson, Graham Earlam and Graham Jenkins who were awarded a time of 60m21s. Next home and 17th team overall, were Alison Hughes, John Cole and Danny Legg in 70m48s, just ahead of Roy Traynor, Jason Bennett and Alan Durston in 73m32s for 23rd Overall. Fourth team home for the club and 51st team overall were Alison Macdonald, Madelaine Bird and Nigel Crieri in 87m20s.
Undaunted by gale force winds, falling trees and in one instance stray bouncy castles, several EPRC runners took to the roads last Sunday.
Prestatyn Riverside 10k – 22.6.08
Dave Nalder was the only EPRC to make the trip along the North Wales coast to take part in the Prestatyn Riverside 10k. Despite having to run in a howling gale, which meant running most of the race sideways, and thereby doing a reasonable impression of a wayward kite, Dave posted a very decent time of 42m and managed to avoid getting into too much of flap.
Penny Lane 10k - 22.6.08
Further enhancing his burgeoning race reputation, EPRC’s Paul Ashley metaphorically and at times quite literally, flew around this fast flat course to clock an excellent 38m54s. Paul remains confident that given the right conditions, i.e. not a full on summer storm, he will soon be able to dip under 38m.
Freckleton Half Marathon – 22.6.08
Two EPRC runners, Steve Laker and John Hawker, took part in what is billed as the UK’s oldest Half Marathon, apparently second only in world terms to an event in Luxembourg! Despite modestly describing this run as ‘not the best day in the office’ Steve was still able to record an excellent time of 1hr 22m53s. Ably supporting Steve was John, who also clocked an impressive time returning home in 1hr42m31s. Running in very strong winds it was never going to be an easy race over an undulating rather than flat course under an overcast sky with a temperature of 10 degrees with wind chill.
